Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has announced that President John Dramani Mahama will, from March 18, begin a nationwide engagement tour dubbed the “Resetting Ghana” initiative.
The President is expected to lead ministers and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to interact directly with citizens, traditional leaders, and key stakeholders across the country.
“The objective is to engage the people, listen to their concerns, and keep them informed about what government is doing,” he said.
The tour will commence in the Bono Region, with subsequent visits planned across other regions.
He said this on Tuesday, March 17 when the Vice President, Prof. Naana Jane paid a working visit to his office at the presidency.
The Spokesperson of government communication further added that the tour forms part of broader efforts by the Mahama administration to enhance transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in governance.
He also told the Vice President that government has cut Communication Staff from 104 to 18 as Mahama Begins Nationwide ‘Resetting Ghana’ Tour.
He also revealed that sweeping reforms in the government’s communication sector have reduced staff strength from 104 to just 18, in a move aimed at improving efficiency and coordination.
He explained that previously fragmented structures have been merged to eliminate duplication.Remove ads
According to him, the Ministry of Information alone had about 76 staff, while other related agencies accounted for roughly 28 personnel, bringing the total to 104.
“Following the President’s reforms, we now have a streamlined team of 18 managing both government communications and the coordination of public information,” he stated.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu noted that the current team includes presidential staffers, administrative officers, and support personnel such as national service members and research assistants who help coordinate activities between the ministry and other government offices.
Despite the reduced workforce, the ministry continues to supervise key state institutions, including:
• The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation
• The Ghana News Agency
• The Information Services Department
• The National Media Commission
*. Ghana Publishing Company .
He emphasized that these agencies collectively employ a large number of staff and remain critical in disseminating government information nationwide.
He added that improved coordination within the communication ministry will play a crucial role in ensuring that accurate and timely information reaches the public throughout the nationwide exercise.
The Vice President’s visit to the ministry was part of ongoing efforts to assess institutional performance and support government agencies in delivering effectively on their mandates.
