The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has criticised the previous Akufo-Addo administration for not providing adequate infrastructure for the free senior high school programme.
The Akufo-Addo administration launched the free SHS programme in 2017. Haruna Iddrisu noted that the education sector did not have adequate infrastructure to accommodate the increase in the number of students.
Speaking on TV3 Thursday, March 5, he said:
Free Senior High School was launched, but the previous government failed to provide expanded infrastructure and lecture theatres to accommodate the exponential increase in student numbers.
Haruna Iddrisu further revealed plans by the Mahama administration regarding free education.
He said, We want to introduce free education for all persons with special needs and provide them with the necessary assistive devices and increase the feeding grant from GHS 8 to GHS15
On the educational reforms, the Minister said that
We must work towards deboardinisation and the focus should be rural and peri-urban areas and then in urban areas we focus on reducing boardinisation.
