The Deputy Minister for Health, Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, has toured major health facilities in the Tamale Metropolis as part of her official working visit to the Northern Region, with a focus on strengthening healthcare delivery and addressing critical gaps in infrastructure and staffing.
During the tour, Dr. Ayensu-Danquah visited the Tamale Central Hospital, where she inspected key departments including the Out-Patient Department (OPD), Labour Ward, and Children’s Ward.

She interacted with health personnel and patients to gain first-hand insight into operational challenges and service delivery needs.
The Deputy Minister also assessed a Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) project site within the facility aimed at expanding healthcare infrastructure to improve service capacity and efficiency.

The expansion project forms part of broader efforts to modernize health facilities and enhance patient care in the region.

Addressing casual workers at Tamale Central Hospital, Dr. Ayensu-Danquah urged them to remain patient, assuring them that government is committed to improving their employment conditions as part of ongoing reforms in the health sector.
The team later proceeded to the Tolon District Hospital, where the Deputy Minister evaluated infrastructure, equipment availability, and staffing levels.
The visit highlighted the pressing need for retooling and reinforcing healthcare facilities, particularly in underserved districts.
The Northern Regional Minister, John Ali Adolf, who accompanied the Deputy Minister, emphasized the importance of equitable health service distribution.

He cautioned that health professionals who refuse rural postings should not expect government support for reposting, stressing the need for commitment to national service, especially in deprived communities.
The working visit forms part of the Ministry of Health’s broader agenda to retool health facilities, strengthen infrastructure, and ensure adequate staffing across the country, with special attention to rural and underserved regions.
Dr. Ayensu-Danquah reiterated government’s commitment to improving healthcare outcomes nationwide, particularly in maternal and child health, noting that sustained investment in infrastructure, personnel, and equipment remains central to achieving quality and accessible healthcare for all Ghanaians.
