Security in the Tamale Metropolis during Ramadan focuses on preventing sectarian clashes and maintaining order, particularly regarding Tafsir (Quranic interpretations).

In this vain, the Tamale Metropolitan Security Committee headed by the Mayor of Tamale, Abu Takora has met with the various stakeholders including the various security agencies, traditional and Muslim sectarian leaders, Christian Council, Media and other relevant stakeholders.
The meeting deliberated among other things hate speech and the fostering of peace among the large Muslim community and also curtail the perennial clashes between Muslim sects during Ramadan.
The Mayor said the security committee has been deployed to monitor various activities that will undermine the peace and stability of the metropolis.
Our main aim is to foster harmony in this holy month of Ramadan. I have the backing of the traditional authorities and that of the security agencies, so we will come after you if you want to forment trouble. It is my duty and our duty to ensure a calm atmosphere for the fasting and spiritual activities of the Tamale Muslim community.

Speaking at the meeting the Tamale Metro Police commander, Supt. Cosmos Aweh, stressed that the police service and other security agencies will do their work and apply the law to the fullest without fear or favour.
It is our duty as Muslim leaders to maintain order and ensure a peaceful Ramadan for the next generation. Clashes over the years has centered around the divergent, often sensitive, interpretations of the Quran during public preaching.

Traditional leaders at the meeting urged the media houses not to allow their platforms to be used to forment trouble by allowing their airwaves to be used to perpetuate hate speech and division.
