A major operational challenge has hit the Northern regional command of the Ghana National Fire Service after one of its frontline fire engines broke down dramatically while en route to an emergency.

The fire tender was responding to a reported outbreak along Kamina road when flames were detected from underneath the moving vehicle. The driver quickly halted the truck to prevent the situation from escalating.

The incident left the appliance severely damaged, with its tyres destroyed by the heat. All personnel on board escaped unharmed.

The affected engine is regarded as one of the command’s most dependable units, and its temporary withdrawal from service presents a significant setback to firefighting capacity in the region.

The vehicle has been removed for technical examination as authorities work to determine the cause of the malfunction. The service is yet to issue an official communication with details of the incident.

The development raises fresh concerns about equipment sustainability and operational readiness at a time when fire outbreaks remain a recurring threat in the region.
