The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has been honoured with the SMRP International Leadership Award for his role in promoting maintenance, reliability and asset management practices within the energy sector.
The recognition, presented by the Society for Maintenance and Reliability Professionals (SMRP) Caribbean Chapter, cited his influence in driving innovation and advancing sustainability and professional standards in the industry beyond Ghana.
Receiving the award on his behalf, the Director of Renewable Energy at the Ministry, Seth Mahu, linked the honour to broader continental cooperation and reform efforts.
“This award, recognizes the role Dr. Jinapor is playing in transforming the energy sector; not only in Ghana, but across the entire African continent. This award symbolizes a bridge between Trinidad and Tobago and Ghana. We hope that with this award, the two countries would become much closer and will collaborate and cooperate in the area of energy transition for the mutual benefits of our people”.
The SMRP Caribbean Chapter International Leadership Award is regarded as one of the organisation’s top honours, recognising individuals whose impact extends beyond national borders and promotes technical excellence, workforce development, safety and industry best practices.
The recognition also highlights growing ties between Ghana and Trinidad and Tobago in the petroleum and energy space, particularly in technical cooperation, investment and capacity building in Ghana’s oil and gas sector.
Officials say the partnership has strengthened domestic gas infrastructure development and supported local content participation as part of South–South collaboration in the industry.
