The Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly has announced plans to implement digital systems aimed at improving revenue mobilisation, enhancing efficiency, and reducing human interference in the collection process.
Speaking to Citi News on Monday, February 9, 2026, the Municipal Chief Executive, Roland Atanga expressed concern over the Assembly’s continued reliance on manual revenue collection methods, describing the current system as inefficient and prone to leakages.
Mr Atanga explained that the Assembly intends to develop a comprehensive database of properties and businesses within the municipality, which will be integrated with a banking payment system to enable direct payments.
“We need to have a database of all the properties in town. If we link this to a bank, the bank generates a quota, and people pay directly. This will make planning and budgeting easier and eliminate the human factor. Currently, money is sometimes paid to individuals, some don’t account for it, some delay the process, and sometimes the funds are diverted,” he said.
He added that reducing manual handling of revenue would build public confidence in the Assembly’s financial management and strengthen accountability.
Mr Atanga emphasised that the digitalisation initiative is aimed at promoting transparency, improving revenue tracking, and ensuring more efficient service delivery.
He called on residents and business owners to support the programme.

“If we have a database of all stores and their owners and link them to a bank, it becomes easier to determine at the click of a button how many have paid and who is yet to pay. The bank can also send reminders to defaulters, eliminating the need for revenue collectors to move around inspecting receipts,” he added.
The Assembly believes that the transition to digital revenue collection will significantly reduce losses while enhancing financial planning and overall municipal governance.
