The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has launched investigations into alleged vote-buying, vote-selling and electoral corruption during recent internal elections of both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), with particular focus on the Ayawaso East parliamentary primaries.

In a public notice issued on Sunday, February 8, 2026, the OSP announced that it had commenced investigations into the NPP presidential primaries conducted on January 31, 2026, as well as real-time investigations into the NDC parliamentary primaries held at Ayawaso East on February 7, 2026.

According to the OSP, the investigations are centred on allegations of vote-buying, vote-selling, and the sources of funding behind the alleged corrupt practices.

The Special Prosecutor disclosed that during the conduct of the NDC parliamentary primaries at Ayawaso East, one of the candidates, Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, allegedly abetted thugs to physically attack an officer of the OSP who was carrying out an investigative directive relating to allegations of vote-buying and vote-selling.

The OSP said the alleged assault occurred while the officer was lawfully performing his official duties.

“As a consequence, the OSP has opened further investigations into the assault of an authorised officer of the Office of the Special Prosecutor in the performance of his functions in relation to Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed,” the notice stated.

The OSP further reminded the public that corrupt practices related to elections are prohibited under Ghanaian law, stressing that vote-buying, vote-selling, intimidation, threats of violence, and acts of violence constitute serious criminal offences.

The Special Prosecutor warned that the Office will pursue all such matters without fear or favour, as part of its mandate to protect the integrity of Ghana’s electoral processes.
