Dr. Bawumia offers public thanksgiving ahead of official results

Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has expressed heartfelt gratitude to his campaign team, parliamentary supporters, and party executives following his strong showing in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries held on Saturday, 31 January 2026.

Speaking at his campaign collation centre ahead of the official declaration of results by the Electoral Commission, Dr Bawumia attributed his performance to the collective effort of his team.

“You’re only as good as your team in these matters. And I can say without any fear of contradiction that I have been blessed with an excellent team,” he said.

He singled out his national campaign coordinators for their significant contributions, adding:

“The campaign team, in general, everybody has contributed so much, and I cannot really thank everybody individually at the moment, but I will have time to thank everybody individually.”

Dr Bawumia reserved special recognition for Members of Parliament who supported his candidacy, describing their backing as “phenomenal.”

“The MPs, I must say, who have stood by my side have been phenomenal in this contest. They’ve really supported, and they’ve delivered what they promised to do. I want to thank all the Members of Parliament who supported me.”

He also thanked party executives, the Electoral Commission, security personnel, and the media for their roles in ensuring a smooth voting process.

Preliminary results from across the country indicate that Dr Bawumia is leading his four rivals: businessman Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Food and Agriculture Minister Dr Bryan Acheampong, former Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, and former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.

Over 211,000 delegates participated at more than 300 polling centres nationwide in the closely contested race to determine the NPP’s flagbearer for the 2028 general election.

The Electoral Commission is expected to officially declare the final results once collation is completed, likely confirming Dr Bawumia as the party’s next presidential candidate.
