The Paramount Chief of the Buipe Traditional Area, Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II, has announced plans to mobilise traditional leaders to play a more active role in Ghana’s national development, with a strong focus on agriculture, youth empowerment, and poverty reduction.
The Buipewura made this known when he paid a courtesy call on the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, at The Bank Square on Thursday, January 22, 2026.
According to him, his vision is to rally traditional authorities not only in Ghana but across the African continent to support government development efforts and promote economic self-reliance.
“My aim is to mobilise traditional leaders to play a role in national development. You cannot say you are free when someone is feeding you,” he stated.

As part of initiatives being pursued in the Buipe Traditional Area, Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II disclosed plans to establish a Farmers Brigade to mobilise the youth into farming while providing support to existing farmers.
He also highlighted efforts to improve the commercialisation of agricultural activities to enhance productivity and incomes.
Additionally, he said traditional leaders are being encouraged to actively support government development programmes, while women-led initiatives are being promoted to address poverty and improve livelihoods.
The Paramount Chief expressed confidence that increased food production and local economic empowerment would contribute significantly to national economic stability and growth.

Responding to the initiatives, Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama welcomed the proposals, noting that food availability remains critical to economic stability.
He observed that Ghana’s success in controlling inflation in the past year was largely due to food abundance, which helped keep food inflation low.
Dr. Asiama expressed optimism that the Buipewura’s development-driven initiatives would help improve living standards and support broader national economic goals.
The engagement highlights the growing role of traditional leadership in advancing Ghana’s development agenda through grassroots mobilisation and economic participation.
