Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has inaugurated the governing board of the Ghana Sports Fund at a ceremony held at the ministry in Accra.

The inauguration represents a key milestone in the rollout of the Ghana Sports Fund Bill, which is aimed at establishing a reliable funding framework to support the growth and development of sports across the country.

The newly constituted board is chaired by Prof. Koryoe Anim-Wright, with Dr. David Kofi Wuaku appointed as Administrator. In attendance was the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, together with officials from various government agencies.

In his address, the minister underscored the strategic role of the Ghana Sports Fund in strengthening governance and financing within the sports and recreation sector.

He charged board members to uphold the highest standards of accountability, transparency, and firmness, especially in decisions relating to the allocation and disbursement of funds.

According to him, effective stewardship of the Fund will ensure equitable distribution of resources to support athlete welfare, sports infrastructure and grassroots development initiatives nationwide.

“Let me be clear, fund alone does not transform sports, leadership does, governance does, discipline does, that is why the inauguration of the Governing Board is so important. Members of the Board, you carry a significant national responsibility.

“You are being entrusted with public confidence, public resources and the hope of athletes across the country. Your decisions must reflect fairness, transparency and strategic thinking. The fund must serve sports not interest,” he said.

The minister expressed confidence in the capacity of the board to successfully execute its mandate, citing the diverse expertise and experience of its members as a strong foundation for effective collaboration.

He added that the collective strength of the board would be instrumental in ensuring the successful implementation of the Ghana Sports Fund Bill.
