Davos, Switzerland – January 21, 2026
President John Dramani Mahama is set to lead the first Davos convening of the Accra Reset on January 22, 2026, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting.
The Accra Reset is a Global South–driven initiative aimed at strengthening sovereign capacity and reimagining international cooperation amid growing global challenges.
President Mahama chairs the Presidential Council of the initiative, which seeks to promote a more equitable global system in response to intensifying geopolitical rivalries, trade tensions, climate shocks, cost-of-living pressures, pandemics, and conflicts.
Several African and Global South leaders are expected to participate in the high-level side event.
They include President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt, President William Samoei Ruto of Kenya, and President Félix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Nigeria will be represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, while Prime Minister James Marape will attend on behalf of Papua New Guinea.
Former heads of state participating in the discussions include former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, Rt. Hon. Helen Clark, former Mauritian President Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, and former Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf. They form the Guardians Circle of the Accra Reset.
The meeting in Davos will also mark the launch of priority programmes under the initiative, following its formal introduction at the 2025 United Nations General Assembly and its endorsement at the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg.
President Mahama has described the Accra Reset as complementary to his domestic reform agenda, the Resetting Ghana Agenda.
As a founding member of the initiative, Ghana maintains that effective national governance must be supported by both strong internal reforms and a fairer international system.
The President has consistently stressed that true sovereignty lies in a country’s ability to pursue its national vision while building strategic partnerships, particularly within Africa and across the Global South, to advance shared interests.
The Accra Reset discussions at Davos are expected to reinforce calls for renewed global cooperation that better reflects the priorities and realities of developing countries.
