IGP Special Operations team conducts security sweep in Tamale Metropolis; one arrested

Tamale, December 13, 2025 – A special security operation conducted by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Special Operations Team has led to the arrest of one suspect and reinforced public safety across the Tamale Metropolis.

The operation, aimed at curbing robbery, drug peddling, assault, rape, and other criminal activities, was carried out on Saturday, December 13, 2025. A total of 52 police personnel were deployed under the command of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Bawah Abdul Jalil, with logistical support from nine service vehicles, including an armored vehicle and a Black Maria.

The exercise began with intensified patrols along the Tamale–Bolgatanga Highway before extending into inner-city communities, markets, and other identified crime-prone areas within the metropolis.

Key locations covered during the operation included Aboabo Market, the Tamale Bus Stop, the Tamale Old Market, and the Tamale Taxi Rank.

During the patrols, police arrested one suspect at the Tamale Bus Stop in possession of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

The suspect was conveyed to the Sakasaka Police Station, where he is currently in custody to assist with ongoing investigations.

The suspected substance has been handed over to investigators for screening and forensic examination.

The police report indicates that the operation was completed successfully without any casualties. Law and order were maintained throughout the exercise, after which the team returned to base on standby, awaiting further directives.

The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to sustaining proactive security operations to ensure the safety of residents and promote free movement within the Tamale Metropolis and the wider Northern Region.
