The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Special Operations Team has intensified its security presence in the Tamale Metropolis, leading to the arrest of ten suspects in a coordinated anti-crime operation conducted on Friday, December 5, 2025.
The operation, which formed part of routine daily patrols, is aimed at curbing drug peddling and abuse, robbery, rape, and other criminal activities that pose a threat to public peace and national security.
A total of 50 police personnel, led by DSP Karim Mahama and ASP Bawah Abdul Jalil, were deployed for the exercise.
The team utilized eight operational vehicles, including a Black Maria, to ensure effective coverage and rapid response across identified areas.

Acting on actionable intelligence, the police carried out targeted operations at Gukpegu Tua, Sakasaka, and the Kalaraga enclave, locations recently identified as emerging hotspots for illicit drug activities and other forms of criminal behavior.
The operation resulted in the arrest of ten suspects, made up of nine males and one female.
Exhibits retrieved during the exercise included dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and three sachets of tramadol tablets.
The suspects were subsequently conveyed to the Sakasaka Police Station, where they are currently in custody assisting with investigations.

The seized exhibits have been handed over to the appropriate investigative unit for screening and forensic examination.
Police authorities confirmed that the operation was carried out professionally, with strict adherence to standard operational procedures.
No injuries or casualties were recorded, and the team returned safely to base after the exercise.
The IGP Special Operations Team reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order in the Tamale Metropolis, noting that intelligence-led and intensified operations will continue to be deployed to dismantle criminal networks and ensure sustained peace and security in the area.
Authorities have assured the public of their resolve to protect lives and property and encouraged residents to support security agencies with timely and credible information.
