The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Technical Universities Senior Administrators Association of Ghana (TUSAAG) has declared an indefinite industrial strike, effective Wednesday, December 3, 2025.
The decision follows what the association describes as the government’s persistent delay in paying the One-Time Research Allowance, agreed upon on July 10, 2024.
According to TUSAAG, the allowance, which was negotiated to compensate administrators for research and publication required for promotion, is not a privilege but an agreed entitlement.
The continued non-payment, the association says, constitutes a “blatant breach of agreement” and demonstrates a lack of respect for the essential contributions of administrators to tertiary education in Ghana.
The association further claims that months of engagement with government agencies, including the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), have yielded no results.
According to TUSAAG, letters, formal requests for dialogue, and repeated attempts to meet with the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, have reportedly gone unanswered or been deferred, leaving them with no alternative but to resort to industrial action.
The strike will involve a complete withdrawal of administrative services across all 10 Technical Universities. Functions such as finance, admissions, examinations, human resources, registry, and general administration are expected to be severely disrupted until the government addresses the outstanding allowances.
Despite the industrial action, TUSAAG says it remains open to sincere and immediate dialogue to achieve a permanent resolution, stressing that the strike is aimed at compelling the attention and action that previous appeals have failed to secure.
