The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has hailed the former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, describing her as a trailblazing figure whose life transformed Ghana’s political and social landscape.
The tribute was delivered by Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, General Secretary of the party, during Nana Konadu’s funeral rites at the Black Star Square on Friday, November 28.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Kwetey expressed deep gratitude for her service, courage, and the enduring foundations she laid in Ghana’s political and social fabric.
“Thank you, Nana Konadu. Thank you for your service. Thank you for your courage. Thank you for the lives you uplifted. Thank you for the foundations you laid, foundations that can never be erased from the history of the PNDC or the NDC. Your race is run, but your legacy endures. Your fire continues to burn in a new generation unafraid to be bold,” he said.
He emphasised that Nana Konadu’s legacy lives on in every confident girl entering a classroom, every widow protected by law, every woman who now knows she can lead, and every community where early education has taken root.
Mr. Kwetey also highlighted her historic bid for the presidency, saying, “When the time came, she once again defied all limits and became the first woman to contest the presidency of the Republic of Ghana, a testament to her courage and her lifelong message that leadership is not a man’s birthright.”
He described Nana Konadu as “the very heartbeat of a movement that reshaped Ghana’s political, social, and democratic landscape.”
A cornerstone of both the PNDC and NDC, Nana Konadu played an integral role in the party’s formation, organisation, and strategy.
Her election in 2009 as First Vice Chairperson of the NDC recognised her foundational role and enduring influence.
