Accra, November 24, 2025: The Minority Caucus in Parliament has criticised the Tamale High Court’s decision to nullify the 2024 parliamentary election results in the Kpandai Constituency, describing the ruling as troubling and inconsistent with the facts established during the electoral process.
In a statement issued on Monday and signed by Minority Leader, Osahen Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the Caucus defended the credibility of the election that saw Hon. Mathew Nyindam emerge victorious with a margin of 3,734 votes, securing 27,947 votes against the NDC candidate Hon. Daniel Nsala Wakpal’s 24,213 votes.
According to the statement, the election was conducted transparently, with all NDC agents signing the pink sheets across the constituency.
Tensions escalated only after Hon. Wakpal and some NDC supporters allegedly stormed the collation centre in a Mahindra pickup, damaging ballot boxes and attempting to disrupt the collation process.
This led the Electoral Commission to move the final declaration to its regional office in Tamale.
The Minority Caucus noted that despite the violence, the Electoral Commission proceeded with its work and declared Hon. Nyindam the legitimate winner.
Hon. Wakpal later filed a legal challenge, citing clerical errors in 41 out of 152 polling stations and his absence from Tamale during the collation.
However, the Caucus argued that even if all 500 votes in contention had been awarded to Wakpal, the NDC candidate would still have trailed by over 3,000 votes.
The Tamale High Court nonetheless nullified the entire election and ordered a rerun in the constituency, a decision the Minority described as concerning and not reflective of the evidence presented.
The statement further disclosed that both a notice of appeal and an application for a stay of execution have been filed to challenge the ruling.
The Minority Caucus reaffirmed its belief that the Kpandai elections reflected the true will of the people and expressed confidence that the appellate process would restore trust in the democratic outcome delivered by voters in the constituency.
