The IGP Special Operations Team last Monday embarked on a combat walk and show of force within Bole and its surrounding communities as part of ongoing security efforts to maintain peace and stability in the wake of the conflict between the Gonja and Brefo tribes.
The curfew imposed in the area remains in force, with yesterday’s operation aimed at reinforcing security visibility, assuring public confidence, and deterring any potential breach of peace.
Eighty-five personnel took part in the exercise led by the Officer in Charge, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Bawah Jalil, who briefed them on the day’s mission and conduct.
He urged the personnel to remain professional, vigilant, disciplined, and alert throughout the operation.
The team was fully kitted with body armour and double magazine weapons, symbolising readiness and operational capability to handle any threat that might arise.
A total of eight service vehicles and 10 service motorbikes were deployed for the operation, which began with a combat and tactical walk through the main streets of Bole.
The vehicles and motorbikes led the formation, followed by personnel on foot chanting combat songs in loud voices.
This served as a morale booster and a clear message to residents that the security forces remain active and alert.
The team moved through the central market area, hospitals, schools, and other locations previously identified as hotspots during the early stages of the conflict.
The strong security presence within these areas provided reassurance to the public and reinforced confidence in the ongoing peacekeeping efforts.
After completing the combat walk, personnel boarded the service vehicles and proceeded with intensive patrols across the township and surrounding villages.
The patrols covered inner-city roads, the area surrounding the residence of the president, as well as key commercial locations, including the GCB, mobile money vendors, and other business centres.
Deterrence
The patrols were conducted with high visibility to ensure deterrence and to demonstrate the continuous readiness of the security agencies to respond to any security threat.
Throughout the operation, the general situation within Bole remained calm and peaceful.
No incidents, arrests, or disturbances were recorded, and public response to the team’s presence was positive.
Residents complied with curfew regulations, and business activities were observed to be gradually returning to normal.
The operation successfully achieved its intended objectives of maintaining visibility, deterring violence, and enhancing public trust in the ongoing peace efforts.
A police report said the Special Operations Team remained fully committed to its mandate of maintaining law and order within Bole.
“The team will continue to work closely with community leaders, opinion leaders, and sister security agencies to consolidate peace and stability in the area.
“Continued presence and proactive engagement with the community will be maintained to ensure that the hard-earned calm and cooperation between the Gonja and Brefo communities are sustained,” the report said.
