The Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive, Hon. Abubakari Adam Takoro on Friday, October 24, 2025, performed the sod-cutting ceremony for the construction and furnishing of a modern Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) Compound at Kudula in the Tamale Metropolis.
The brief but colourful ceremony brought together the Chief and elders of Kudula, the NDC Tamale South Constituency Chairman, and the Assemblyman for the area, who joined in the symbolic exercise to mark the commencement of the project.

According to the Mayor, the new CHPS compound will be equipped with residential accommodation for health workers to enhance access to quality primary healthcare for residents, especially women and children who often travel long distances for medical care.
He noted that the initiative forms part of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly’s broader commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery and bridging the gap between urban and peri-urban communities.

The Mayor further urged the contractor to engage unskilled labour from within Kudula to help stimulate local economic growth and provide temporary employment opportunities during the construction phase.
He commended former President John Dramani Mahama for his continuous fulfillment of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), which, he said, empowers Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to implement critical development projects that directly improve the welfare of citizens.

The MCE also appealed to the contractor to adhere strictly to quality standards and complete the project within the stipulated timeframe, while calling on community members to fully cooperate to ensure the project’s successful completion.
