TAMALE, Ghana – September 12, 2025

FirstBank Ghana officially inaugurated its newest branch in Tamale on Thursday, September 11, marking a historic milestone as the bank extends its physical presence to Northern Ghana for the first time.

The expansion underscores FirstBank Ghana’s commitment to driving financial inclusion, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and accelerating the country’s socio-economic growth.

The new branch, strategically located on Hospital Road, positions FirstBank Ghana at the heart of one of the nation’s most dynamic and rapidly growing regions. Tamale, the Northern Regional capital, is a cultural hub and a pivotal player in Ghana’s development agenda.

Its strategic location along major trade corridors, combined with a vibrant entrepreneurial spirit and thriving agribusiness sector, makes it an ideal site for the bank’s northern operations.

Opening a branch in Tamale is more than just geographical expansion. It is a deliberate investment in the people and potential of Northern Ghana, said Mr. Victor Yaw Asante, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of FirstBank Ghana.

We believe that access to banking is a catalyst for progress. With this new branch, we are deepening our promise to partner with customers at every stage of their journey, from the market stall owner to the university graduate building their first business. Tamale represents our vision of inclusive, people-centred banking that fuels dreams, grows businesses, and transforms communities.

Tamale’s economy is powered by a diverse network of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) across sectors such as agriculture and agro-processing, including rice milling, poultry, livestock rearing, and shea butter processing, as well as transport and logistics, construction, healthcare, hospitality, commerce, and manufacturing. These sectors are crucial to Ghana’s food security, job creation, and regional trade competitiveness.

FirstBank Ghana aims to serve as a trusted financial partner to these enterprises by offering flexible financing, tailored solutions, advisory services, and cutting-edge digital innovations.

By combining traditional banking services with digital platforms, the Bank seeks to improve financial literacy, extend access to underserved communities, and empower SMEs and young entrepreneurs to grow sustainable businesses.

The Tamale branch joins FirstBank Ghana’s growing network, which includes branches in Nhyiaeso (Kumasi), Ashaiman (near Tema), Tema Community 6, and several locations in Accra, such as Lapaz, Abossey Okai, East Legon, Osu, and Tip Toe Lane.

The Bank has also relaunched branches in Takoradi Market Circle, Kasoa, Ring Road Central, and Kaneshie.

These strategic expansions reflect the Bank’s belief that proximity to communities matters in fostering financial inclusion and supporting the growth of SMEs.

The Tamale branch serves not just as a new service point but as a gateway to Northern Ghana’s economic transformation.

FirstBank Ghana operates under the umbrella of First Bank of Nigeria Limited, a financial powerhouse with a 131-year heritage and a strong presence across sub-Saharan Africa, Europe, and Asia.

This global footprint provides a foundation of resilience, innovation, and customer-focused service that empowers FirstBank Ghana to deliver world-class solutions tailored to local realities.

The opening of the Tamale branch symbolises more than just growth for the Bank, it represents a significant step toward bridging the financial access gap in Northern Ghana and fostering inclusive economic development for generations to come.
