Musah Superior appeals to NPP National officers to resign immediately

Tamale, Ghana – Former Mayor of Tamale, Iddrisu Musah Superior, has issued a strongly worded call for the immediate resignation of the national leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing them of incompetence and poor strategic direction following the party’s recent electoral setbacks.

In a statement titled “A Call for Accountability: The NPP National Executives Must Resign Now!”, Mr Superior said the party has been “abandoned, leaderless, and directionless” since its painful defeat in the 2024 general elections.

We have suffered two humiliating defeats after our miserable loss in 2024, the Ablekuma North re-run and, most recently, the devastating loss in the Akwatia by-election. These failures cannot be swept under the rug, he stated.

Musah Superior blamed the current national executives, particularly the General Secretary and his team, for failing to provide the necessary strategy and operational plan to keep the party competitive.

The NPP is crippled! The current leadership has no strategy, no operational plan, and no sense of urgency, he said.

He described the party as weak, disunited, and unable to effectively challenge the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), warning that without urgent reforms, the NPP risks facing an even more devastating loss in the 2028 general elections.

Referencing a leaked audio of the party’s 3rd National Vice Chairman, Alhaji Masawudu Osman, popularly known as Chairman Buga, Musah Superior said the recording exposed the “incompetence” of the party leadership.

The audio allegedly revealed a lack of funds to support the Akwatia by-election campaign, despite reported contributions from former government officials and appointees.

This is not the voice of a ‘mere’ person but the account of a sitting national officer who can no longer remain silent while the party sinks deeper into crisis, Musah Superior said, calling for a thorough investigation into the claims.

The former Tamale Mayor warned that if the party’s national executives remain in office, the NPP could follow the path of the now-defunct Convention People’s Party (CPP).

For the survival and future prospects of the NPP, the entire national executives must honorably resign or be forced to resign. Enough is enough! he declared.

Musah Superior emphasized that the party must embark on comprehensive reforms, restructuring, and rebranding to repair its damaged image and regain public confidence.

In the last nine months, the NPP has shown no force, no action, no tact, and no impact, he lamented.

Indiscipline has become a major feature of the party. We have lost focus and will remain unattractive if we do not change our ways.

The call by Musah Superior adds to growing internal pressure on the NPP leadership as members and grassroots supporters demand accountability and a new direction to prepare for the 2028 elections.
