Sagnarigu municipal assembly face hurdles in project development, funding

25

The Sagnarigu Municipal Assembly has raised concerns over persistent funding challenges and misrepresentation of development projects, which it says are undermining service delivery and accountability in the municipality.

At its latest general meeting, assembly members expressed frustration over the delayed deployment of government-provided DRIP machines, intended to support irrigation and enhance livelihoods. Although the equipment had been received, leaders disclosed that final allocation instructions from the national level were still pending, leaving farmers unable to benefit.

Rehabilitation of schools also featured prominently in the discussions. Assembly leaders admitted that several projects, including those in Sagnarigu Kukoo Yalpalsi, have stalled due to financial constraints.

Members urged urgent alternative funding to prevent further deterioration of abandoned school structures.

Another major concern highlighted was the misattribution of assembly-funded projects to political figures.

Members argued that developments such as market and toilet construction are often wrongly credited to parliamentarians or political party leaders, eroding trust and obscuring transparency regarding the use of communal resources.

Officials called for clearer communication to help residents distinguish between assembly-financed initiatives and those backed by the central government or politicians.

Representatives from key institutions, including the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PUR), Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Ghana Water Company Limited, and the local task force, joined the meeting and contributed to discussions.

Their participation, officials noted, would help align efforts in addressing funding gaps, improving service delivery, and strengthening accountability.

The meeting concluded with a strong call for greater collaboration among agencies and a renewed commitment to keeping residents informed about the ownership and progress of development projects in the municipality.
