Nasco Feeding Minds Executive Calls For Peace In Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District

31

The Executive Director of Nasco Feeding Minds, Mr. Seidu Nuhu Banasco, has called for calm and peaceful resolution following violent clashes in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region, Ghana.

The unrest arose from a land dispute between the Gonja and Brifor communities in the farming village of Gbiniyiri, leading to the tragic death of at least five individuals and multiple injuries.

In an exclusive interview with Nkilgi FM, a Bole-based radio station, Mr. Banasco expressed grave concern over the escalation of the conflict.

He emphasized that conflicts of this nature, regardless of scale, can have devastating consequences.

Once confrontation begins, casualties are inevitable, he stated, underscoring the importance of dialogue over violence.

To foster peace, Mr. Banasco suggested that the leadership of the Brifor community engage with the Bole Traditional Council to affirm their recognition of traditional authority and to clarify that land ownership in the area is not contentious.

He believes such gestures could de-escalate tensions and pave the way for peaceful coexistence.

Given that the Member of Parliament for the constituency is also from the Brifo/Lobi community, Mr. Banasco stressed the need for influential leaders, including the MP, to spearhead peace initiatives.

Leadership from respected figures can help restore calm and alleviate the suffering of women and children who are most affected by this conflict, he said.

Mr. Seidu Nuhu Banasco also commended the efforts of local chiefs and security agencies for their prompt response in safeguarding lives and property.

He expressed hope that continued collaboration and proactive leadership will ultimately restore lasting peace in the district.
