Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has reaffirmed government’s commitment to improving conditions within the Ghana Prisons Service, stressing the need for reforms that guarantee dignity and reintegration opportunities for inmates.
She gave this assurance when she met with the leadership of the Ghana Prisons Service, led by the Director General, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, in Accra.
The discussions focused on the challenges facing the Service and possible strategies to address them.

The Vice President highlighted the importance of strong public education on the work of the Prisons Service and called for greater collaboration with other state agencies and the media.
She further commended the Service for its interventions, particularly its growing involvement in agricultural initiatives, describing them as promising steps toward self-sustainability and inmate rehabilitation.

As a responsible nation, it is our duty to ensure dignified conditions for inmates, to offer meaningful reforms, and to provide the necessary support for their reintegration into society, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang emphasized.
She assured the Prisons leadership that government remains committed to supporting reforms and improving facilities across the Service to enhance both security and rehabilitation outcomes.

The meeting forms part of the Vice President’s broader engagements with key security and social institutions aimed at promoting reforms and advancing national development.
