New UDS Governing Gouncil Inaugurated, Urged To Foster Unity And Development

Tamale, Ghana — A new 13-member Governing Council for the University for Development Studies (UDS) has been officially inaugurated, with a call for unity, collaboration, and commitment to the university’s developmental mission.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, Member of Parliament for Tamale South and former Minister of Education, urged council members to work collaboratively to uphold UDS’s role as a community-centered institution focused on development.

He emphasized the importance of unity and teamwork in tackling critical challenges such as graduate employability and strengthening alumni relations.

“The council must prioritize policies that enhance the prospects of our graduates and strengthen their ties with the university,” Hon. Iddrisu stated, while reaffirming the government’s commitment to preserving the autonomy of tertiary institutions.

He stressed the need for the education sector to function free from undue political interference, reinforcing respect for academic freedom and institutional independence.

In his remarks, newly appointed council chairman, Professor Alhassan Wayo Seini, assured stakeholders of the council’s dedication to advancing the interests of the university.

He highlighted the importance of building upon the accomplishments of previous councils and pledged that the new team would work diligently to elevate UDS’s reputation and fulfill its developmental goals.

The inauguration marks a significant step in reinforcing UDS’s commitment to academic excellence, community engagement, and sustainable development.
