China warns nations against ‘appeasing’ US in trade deals

94

China has issued a stern warning to countries engaged in trade talks with the United States, urging them not to yield to US demands that undermine Beijing’s interests.

A spokesperson from China’s Commerce Ministry responded to reports that the Trump administration is pressuring nations to restrict trade with China in exchange for exemptions from US tariffs.

Since President Trump took office, the US has imposed significant tariffs on Chinese imports, as well as tariffs on goods from other countries. In response, China has vowed to defend its interests and the rules of the global trading system.

“Appeasement will not bring peace, nor will compromise earn respect,” the Chinese spokesperson said. “All parties should stand for fairness and uphold international trade rules and the multilateral trading system.”

The US has begun tariff negotiations with key trading partners, including Japan and South Korea, aiming to secure agreements that limit their trade with China. Japan recently sent a delegation to Washington, while South Korea is preparing to start talks soon. Meanwhile, US Vice President JD Vance is expected to meet India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss trade issues, with India facing a 26% tariff if no deal is reached.

China’s warning comes amid concerns that the US is using tariff talks to isolate China economically. The Chinese government has promised to take reciprocal measures against any country that sacrifices its relationship with China to appease the US.
