Ablakwa urges Kufuor Scholars to champion accountability and Ghana’s future

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has called on emerging leaders under the Kufuor Scholars Program (KSP) to actively hold leaders accountable and drive transformative change for the nation.

During a mentorship session organised by the John Agyekum Kufuor Foundation, he emphasised the scholars’ role in shaping Ghana’s future, urging them to “fearlessly hold those in leadership accountable and fight for the Ghana they dream about NOW.”

He stressed the importance of proactive leadership: “Ghana and Africa have a greater future, but it demands your courage to challenge complacency and advocate for good governance.”

The minister highlighted the program’s alignment with national development goals, praising its focus on nurturing leaders committed to integrity, patriotism, and socioeconomic progress.

The Kufuor Scholars Program, launched in 2014 by former President John Agyekum Kufuor, offers a three-year leadership curriculum involving mentorship, internships, and seminars.

Recent cohorts include 30 scholars selected from over 1,250 applicants, all first-year tertiary students from institutions like the University of Ghana and KNUST.

The program aims to equip youth with skills to address systemic challenges, including governance gaps and limited civic engagement.

“You are the change agents who must redefine leadership,” the minister told scholars, underscoring their potential to bridge divides and foster national cohesion.

The session reinforced the program’s core values of transparency, accountability, and ethical governance, which scholars are expected to uphold throughout their training and beyond.
