Accra, Ghana – President John Dramani Mahama has returned home this evening following a one-day working visit to Abuja, Nigeria, where he engaged in high-level discussions with Nigerian President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

During the meeting, President Mahama expressed deep appreciation to President Tinubu for attending his inauguration as the Special Guest of Honour.

He described the gesture as a testament to the strong diplomatic ties between Ghana and Nigeria and an affirmation of Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.

The discussions between the two leaders focused on reinforcing the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to promote deeper economic integration and regional cooperation.

They underscored the urgent need for enhanced collaboration among member states to address the growing threats of terrorism and violent extremism in the region.

Additionally, President Mahama briefed President Tinubu, who currently chairs the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State, on his recent engagements with the leaders of Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso.

Their deliberations aimed at fostering dialogue and exploring strategies to restore stability and security within the subregion.

President Mahama’s visit reaffirms Ghana’s dedication to regional peace, security, and economic development, as well as the continued collaboration between West African nations in addressing common challenges.
