The Minister of Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has announced plans to demolish all structures encroaching on the right of way along the Ashaiman Roundabout to Akosombo Junction corridor.
He noted that these structures, particularly in the Ashaiman area, have significantly hindered the smooth progress of the project.
The road project, which began in May 2022 with a 30-month completion timeline, was initially set to be completed in November 2024. However, it stalled in July 2023 due to the government’s Debt Exchange Programme.
During an inspection visit on Saturday, March 8, Minister Agbodza expressed frustration over the slow progress.
“People are frustrated about the project because when you get to Shai Hills and they see work going on nicely and work is stalled here, they worry. Every project must have a method statement, and I won’t have approved such a work.”
The contractor, however, attributed the delays in the Ashaiman section to the lack of access to the right of way.
