Kumasi, March 02, 2025 — Investigations into the tragic death of Joana Deladem Yabani, a student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), have made significant progress, with law enforcement retrieving crucial evidence that could aid the prosecution.

According to a statement released by the university’s Office of the Registrar, the Police and University Security Services successfully recovered Yabani’s laptop and mobile phone, which were found hidden behind Flint Hostel.

The discovery was made possible through CCTV footage from the hostel’s security surveillance system. Authorities believe this evidence will play a key role in the ongoing case.

Following the retrieval of the belongings, the suspect in custody was arraigned before the Circuit Court at Asokwa earlier today.

The court has remanded the suspect, with the next hearing scheduled for March 17, 2025.

KNUST management has assured the public of its full cooperation with law enforcement agencies to ensure justice is served.

In the statement signed by Dr. Daniel Norris Bekoe, Deputy Registrar for the University Relations Office, the institution expressed gratitude to security personnel for their swift response and urged students and the public to remain calm as legal proceedings continue.

“The University continues to prioritize the safety and security of its students and is taking further steps to enhance surveillance measures within and around campus,” the statement noted.

The university community has extended its condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Joana Deladem Yabani, pledging continued support during this difficult time.

For further inquiries, the university has provided contact details for Miss Anita Kumah, Assistant Registrar of the University Relations Office.
