Samospharma Limited and its subsidiaries have strongly denied the allegations made in a recent BBC Africa Eye Investigations report, which accused the company of importing unlicensed opioids.
The company has labelled these claims as baseless and defamatory, suggesting that there has been fraudulent use of its corporate identity and possible criminal impersonation.
In an official press release dated February 23, 2025, Samospharma Limited stated that the BBC had approached them with alleged evidence of their involvement in trading opioids such as Tapentadol and Carisoprodol.
Samospharma vehemently denied these allegations, clarifying that at no point did BBC Africa Eye visit their offices or facilities to verify the claims, calling the accusations scandalous and libellous.
The company asserted that it has never imported or traded in Tapentadol or Carisoprodol, either individually or in combination.
Samospharma emphasised its strict adherence to industry standards and regulations set by the Tapentadol or Carisoprodol, and other relevant authorities.
In response to the false claims, Samospharma has taken several actions:
– Engaged legal counsel and issued a cease-and-desist order to BBC Africa Eye and their partners.
– Filed formal complaints with FDA Ghana, CID-Ghana Police, and the Indian High Commission to investigate potential impersonation.
– Prepared legal action against BBC Africa Eye and their collaborators for defamation.
– Cooperated fully with authorities to identify the real offenders behind the illegal opioid trade.
Samospharma strongly condemns the illegal opioid trade and supports efforts to combat drug abuse. The company emphasised that while it stands with the victims of drug abuse, it vehemently objects to being wrongfully implicated, which detracts from prosecuting the actual perpetrators.
The company has demanded that BBC Africa Eye immediately retract and correct its misleading claims.
Samospharma remains committed to distributing safe, effective, and high-quality medications while upholding the highest ethical standards and maintaining public trust.
