Accra, Ghana – February 23, 2025 – The National Celebrations Planning Committee (NCPC) has unveiled a series of activities to commemorate Ghana’s 68th Independence Anniversary, including educational programs, competitions, and a grand parade.

According to a statement from the Presidency’s Communications Directorate, the celebrations will officially begin with the commemoration of the 28th February Crossroad Shooting Incident on Friday, February 28, 2025.

This historic event honors the memory of three ex-servicemen who were killed while marching to present grievances to the colonial administration in 1948.

Key activities lined up for the anniversary include:

February 28, 2025 – Wreath-laying ceremony at the Nationalism Park at 8 a.m.

March 2, 2025 – Finals of a nationwide school quiz competition.

March 4, 2025 – Finals of a national debate competition.

March 5, 2025 – The President’s School Children Awards Program.

March 6, 2025 – A ceremonial parade at the forecourt of the Presidency.

The Communications Subcommittee of the NCPC has also planned a nationwide information campaign ahead of the February 28 wreath-laying ceremony, aimed at reviving public interest in Ghana’s independence history.

As part of this initiative, media houses will be encouraged to publish historical content, while an X-space discussion on “The Changing Face of Civil Protests in Ghana: Lessons from the Past and Present” will be hosted.

In a statement, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, urged citizens, bloggers, and the media to actively participate by sharing information and engaging the public on the significance of the anniversary.
