Economist Dr. Sa-ad Iddrisu criticizes NDC appointment process in Northern Region

74

Tamale, Ghana: Economist and member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Sa-ad Iddrisu, has expressed concerns over what he describes as favoritism in the allocation of government appointments in the Northern Region.

In a strongly worded statement, Dr. Iddrisu lamented what he sees as a growing culture of blind loyalty and hero worship within the party, which he believes is preventing open discussions on fairness and equity.

According to Dr. Iddrisu, multiple campaign teams worked tirelessly to secure victory for the NDC in the region during the 2024 general elections.

He listed several groups, including the Dagbani Actors Team, Imam Abudujana Basha Team, Hon ABA Fuseini Team, Lawyer Rauf Team, Chairman Vielim Team, Alhaji Fuzak Team, Hon Haruna Team, N5 Team, Chairman Yellowman Team, and many others, as having played a role in the party’s success.

However, he argues that only the Hon. Haruna Team appears to be benefiting from the presidential appointments, with over 50% of appointments going to individuals associated with this faction.

He questioned why pointing out this imbalance should be considered offensive, stating that his remarks were not intended as an attack on Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, the former Minority Leader.

“If all of these people suffered in the campaign and now only Hon. Haruna’s team is getting presidential appointments, what’s my crime in pointing it out to the appointment committee?” he asked.

Dr. Iddrisu further accused some party members in Tamale and Dagbon of hypocrisy, arguing that other teams also deserve recognition for their contributions.

He warned against a culture of silence, where those who voice concerns are labeled as troublemakers.

“So we live in a society where one can’t say the truth again? Must we all be cowardice into silence?” he questioned.

His remarks have since sparked discussions within the party, with some supporting his call for a more inclusive appointment process, while others view his comments as an attempt to create division.

The NDC’s leadership is yet to officially respond to his concerns.
