Gushegu: NDC challenge results; alleges over-voting in 30 polling stations

Gushegu, December 12, 2024 – The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for the Gushegu Constituency, Malimali Yussif, has raised concerns over alleged electoral infractions during the December 7 elections.

In a press statement, Yussif highlighted several irregularities, which he claimed compromised the credibility of the electoral process in the constituency.

According to Yussif, while the elections were generally peaceful, the process in Gushegu was marred by what he described as “needless machinations” by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its candidate.

He alleged incidents of over-voting at polling stations situated in NPP strongholds and the presence of NPP sympathizers masquerading as officers of the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO).

These actions, he claimed, were aimed at dictating the outcome of the elections in favor of the NPP.

The NDC candidate also accused the NPP of intimidating voters in areas considered to be strongholds of the NDC. He further alleged that the NPP made threats to unleash violence in the constituency as a way of influencing the electoral outcome.

In light of these concerns, Yussif asserted that the results of the elections in Gushegu do not reflect the will of the people.

He assured constituents of the NDC’s commitment to pursuing every lawful avenue to address these grievances, including calling for a full investigation into the alleged infractions.

Yussif reaffirmed his dedication to a peaceful and credible electoral system and urged his supporters to remain calm and resolute while awaiting the resolution of the matter.

“We owe it to our supporters, the chiefs, elders, and people of this constituency to ensure that justice is served,” he stated.

The NDC candidate concluded by emphasizing his commitment to fairness and the socio-economic empowerment of the people of Gushegu, calling on authorities to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.

The Electoral Commission is yet to comment on the allegations raised by the NDC candidate.
