Show the world Ghana can hold credible, peaceful elections – Ibn Chambas

Email :27

Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas, the African Union High Representative for Silencing the Guns, has called on Ghanaians, especially political parties, to refrain from violence during the upcoming December elections.

He stressed the importance of ensuring a peaceful electoral process to avoid negative reports from international observers, which could reflect poorly on the country.

During the signing of the 4th Presidential Election Peace Pact in Accra on Thursday, November 28, Ibn Chambas said, “Once again the opportunity is presented to prove Ghana’s leadership role on the continent is deserved. That Ghana can deliver violence-free, credible elections.

“Already, the eyes of the world are on Ghana, sub-regional, international, African observers have already arrived for the elections. I can see many familiar faces among the ECOWAS delegation, the African Union delegation, the Commonwealth delegation, and some of the other observers who are already here.

“We have of course the new ECOWAS Ambassador. And so we will have the international community here to accompany us. Let them go back and report about the peaceful, non-violence, exemplary elections they would have observed in Ghana.”

He urged the media, judiciary, security agencies, and the Electoral Commission (EC) to refrain from any actions that could imply complicity.

“There should be no room for complacency.”
