Accra, November 27, 2024 – The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed outrage over what it describes as the “kidnapping” of Madam Sylvia Patience Baah, Emirates Airlines Airport Manager in Accra, allegedly orchestrated by operatives of the National Security Secretariat and the National Investigations Bureau (NIB).
In a press statement signed by Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC’s National Communications Officer, the party detailed the purported abduction, which reportedly occurred on November 21, 2024, near Madam Baah’s residence.
The statement alleges that she was blindfolded, handcuffed, and forced into a vehicle by individuals linked to the National Security and NIB.
The NDC claims Madam Baah was subjected to “harrowing” treatment, transported to an undisclosed location, and held for nearly 24 hours before being abandoned in a bush near Ashaiman.
The incident is said to be connected to a professional dispute involving three individuals: Kwabena Adu-Boahene, Director General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB); Benjamin Ansah, Operations Director of the NSB; and Rashida Saani Nasamu, described in the statement as a “powerful waakye seller.”
The NDC alleges the abduction was retribution for Madam Baah’s actions in her professional capacity, which may have offended these individuals and others within the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration.
Call for Accountability
The NDC condemned the incident, labeling it a clear example of “state-sponsored terrorism” and “lawlessness” under the current government.
For eight years, Ghanaians have witnessed a reign of terror in which certain miscreants within the national security apparatus have continuously taken the law into their own hands, the statement read.
The party called on the Inspector-General of Police to conduct an impartial investigation, arrest those involved, and ensure justice is served. It emphasized the need for swift and transparent action to restore public trust.
Political Implications
With just ten days until the December 7 general elections, the NDC used the incident to reinforce its campaign message of change.
The statement urged voters to bring back former President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC to “restore social justice and the rule of law” and ensure the safety of all citizens.
The alleged abduction has sparked widespread condemnation, with many Ghanaians questioning the safety and integrity of state institutions. The government is yet to respond to the allegations.
