The North Gonja District office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has leveraged media platforms to promote peaceful elections and encourage civic engagement ahead of the upcoming December 7, 2024, general elections.

A community meeting, held at Anyanto and sponsored by the European Union (EU) under the “Preventing and Containing Violent Extremism Action in Northern Ghana (PCVE)” initiative, focused on fostering peace in the region as citizens prepare to participate in the electoral process.

During the event, NCCE Director for North Gonja District, Mr. Matthew Dute, urged the youth to be constructive contributors to a peaceful election rather than engaging in violence.

Support peaceful campaigns and refrain from electoral violence. Instead of violence, youth can contribute positively to the electoral process by participating in peaceful protests, exercising the right to peaceful assembly, and practicing free speech, he emphasized.

In interviews with participants, Alhassan Rafiw commended the NCCE for educating the youth on the significance of peaceful elections, democratic principles, and conflict resolution.

Mahama Nurudeen, a resident of Anyanto, pledged to encourage the youth to engage in community service and volunteer work to promote social cohesion and peaceful coexistence within the community.
