Ghana Gold Board donates GHS 2 Million to MahamaCares to boost healthcare delivery

2

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has donated GHS 2 million to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (MahamaCares) to strengthen healthcare delivery and combat the growing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) across the country.

The donation, made at a brief ceremony in Accra, is part of GoldBod’s commitment to supporting national initiatives aimed at improving the quality of healthcare in Ghana.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Richard Nunekpeku, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, reaffirmed the organization’s confidence in the vision of President John Dramani Mahama and the leadership of MahamaCares.

We are convinced of the foresight behind MahamaCares and the capacity of its administrators to deliver on its mission and to use the resources effectively in furtherance of this noble vision. This is why we are making this donation, Mr. Nunekpeku stated.

He further urged other state institutions and corporate bodies to support the initiative, noting that tackling chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and cancer requires a collective national effort.

Receiving the cheque on behalf of the Fund, Ms. Obuobia Darko Opoku, Administrator of MahamaCares, highlighted the critical healthcare gaps identified by a recent needs assessment conducted by the Fund.

According to her, many major healthcare facilities in Accra lack essential medical equipment, hampering effective treatment of NCDs.

Our focus is to equip health institutions with the tools needed to provide quality care for patients battling non-communicable diseases. This generous donation will go a long way toward bridging these gaps, she said.

The MahamaCares initiative was established to improve healthcare infrastructure, particularly in addressing the rising threat of chronic diseases, which have become a leading cause of death and disability in Ghana.

GoldBod’s donation represents a bold step toward improving Ghana’s health system, symbolizing not only financial assistance but also a shared responsibility to ensure better health outcomes for all Ghanaians.

With this support, MahamaCares is expected to accelerate the provision of vital medical equipment and resources to health facilities, paving the way for sustainable improvements in healthcare delivery nationwide.
