Perth, Australia – September 4, 2025
Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging its vast mineral resources for sustainable national development, with a focus on industrialization and job creation.
This was announced by the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, during his presentation at the Africa Down Under Conference in Perth, Australia.
Speaking to a global audience of investors, policymakers, and mining industry leaders, the Minister highlighted Ghana’s determination to ensure that the country’s mineral wealth directly benefits its citizens through investments in education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

We are determined to ensure our mineral wealth translates into tangible improvements for our people, building better schools, stronger hospitals, and creating decent jobs for the next generation, Mr. Buah emphasized.

While Ghana is globally recognized as one of the leading producers of gold, the Minister stressed that the country’s potential extends far beyond the precious metal.
He outlined a strategic agenda to develop integrated industries around bauxite, iron, steel, and lithium, with the goal of positioning Ghana as a key player in the global clean energy transition.
The government’s plans include establishing value-addition industries to process these minerals locally, ensuring that the country captures a greater share of the benefits from its natural resources.
As we open our doors to investment, we are committed to partnerships that prioritize responsible and sustainable practices, ensuring that value is added right here at home, Mr. Buah noted.
Highlighting Ghana’s political stability and ongoing economic reforms, the Minister positioned the country as an attractive destination for investors.
With Accra serving as the headquarters of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), Ghana provides direct access to a unified African market of 1.3 billion people.
With progressive reforms and a stable political environment, Ghana is the natural gateway for businesses seeking to tap into Africa’s enormous potential, he added.

Mr. Buah concluded by reiterating the government’s vision of using the mining sector as a catalyst for inclusive growth and sustainable development. He called on investors to partner with Ghana in a way that creates shared value, protects the environment, and uplifts local communities.

The Africa Down Under Conference is one of the continent’s premier mining and resource development forums, bringing together leaders to discuss strategies for responsible resource exploitation and economic transformation.
This year’s conference provided Ghana with a unique opportunity to showcase its renewed mining vision, aimed at building a resilient economy powered by both its natural resource wealth and its human capital.
