Accra, June 13, 2025 — The Chief Executive Officer of the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF), Dr. Saajida Shiraz, has reported steady progress in the rollout of the No-Fees-Stress initiative, a key education policy under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.
As of Friday, June 13, a total of 120,751 students had accessed the application portal for academic fee support. Out of this figure, 98,861 students have completed their applications under the scheme, which covers academic fees for first-year students in public tertiary institutions.
In addition to individual applications, the SLTF has received enrolment data for 79,476 students through its Tertiary Institutions Portal. This system gathers data directly from public tertiary institutions across the country, helping to streamline the validation process.
Dr. Shiraz confirmed that data validation is underway, with 22,592 students already verified and approved for fee reimbursement. “We are on course to reimburse the academic fees of first-year public tertiary students for the 2024/2025 academic year. So help us God!” she shared in a post on Facebook.
The No-Fees-Stress programme is a cornerstone of the NDC’s broader Free Tertiary Education agenda, aimed at removing financial barriers to higher education.
The policy is designed to promote equitable access, enhance human capital development, and contribute to national growth by easing the financial burden on students and their families.
Under the initiative, the government absorbs academic fees for all eligible first-year students in public tertiary institutions, reinforcing its commitment to inclusive and accessible education for all qualified Ghanaians.
