Ghana and Japan have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties through key development projects and increased cooperation.

In a recent meeting with Suzuki Momoko, Chief Representative of JICA in Ghana, Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced three priority initiatives aimed at fostering growth and regional connectivity.

These include reviving the Volivo to Dorfor Adidome bridge project to link Greater Accra, Volta, and Eastern Regions; constructing an interchange in the Ashanti Region to ease congestion; and providing technical support to boost rice production.

The collaboration reflects Ghana’s ambition to leverage Japan’s expertise in infrastructure and agriculture while enhancing trade relations.

Ghana is also preparing for full representation at TICAD 9, where the country plans to explore new partnerships, including scaling up chocolate exports to Japan amid growing demand for Ghanaian cocoa products. This move, aligns with Ghana’s broader industrialization agenda and efforts to diversify its export portfolio.

Both nations emphasized the importance of their longstanding partnership, which has spanned decades and contributed significantly to infrastructure, education, and healthcare development in Ghana.

The relationship honors the legacy of Dr. Hideyo Noguchi, whose contributions to medical research in Ghana laid the foundation for mutual respect and collaboration.

As Ghana deepens its ties with Japan, the government remains committed to pursuing initiatives that address critical development challenges while fostering economic growth.
