The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has honored the late legendary traditional singer, Naa Amanua Dodoo of the iconic Wulomei band, for her immense contribution to promoting Ga traditional music on the global stage.

MUSIGA President Bessa Simons described Naa Amanua as a maternal figure within the union, acknowledging her dedication to live music in Ghana and beyond.

Speaking to Citi News at her burial service, Simons highlighted her pivotal role in shaping Ga traditional music.

“We have lost one of the authentic voices in Ghana. We have lost a woman who dedicated her life to music. If you listen to the Wulomei band sound, she is the originator of the voice when it comes to Ga traditional music.

“It is sad that we should lose her. For us at MUSIGA, we have lost a gem. Naa was there, and any time you call her, she will come and support us, especially the young women. So, we have lost a mother, and that is why many of the ladies here are crying,” he stated.

Deputy Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, also praised Naa Amanua Dodoo, noting that she proved language is not a barrier to promoting music.
