President John Dramani Mahama is set to swear in Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP) today, Friday, March 14, following the removal of Dr. George Akuffo Dampare from office.

The decision, announced on Thursday, marks a significant shake-up within the Ghana Police Service. While no official reason has been provided for Dr. Dampare’s dismissal, sources suggest that the move is part of a broader restructuring effort aimed at reshaping the leadership and operational direction of the country’s law enforcement agency.

Dr. Dampare, who was appointed IGP in 2021, played a pivotal role in implementing key policing reforms.

Under his leadership, the Ghana Police Service introduced various initiatives aimed at improving public trust and security. His tenure was marked by enhanced community engagement, internal discipline measures, and a focus on professionalizing the service.

Security experts and analysts have credited him with contributing to a reduction in crime and fostering greater accountability within the force.

As COP Christian Yohuno assumes the role of IGP, expectations remain high regarding the direction of policing in Ghana.
