Bunkprugu/Nakpanduri district in the North East Region has been rocked by violent communal clashes, resulting in the deaths of two people and the displacement of over 500 others.
The conflict erupted last week in Ngagma-Gbregu following a dispute over the installation of parallel chiefs by the Chief of Binde. The violence, which lasted three days, left widespread destruction in its wake.
More than 150 houses were torched, and over 5,000 bags of stored foodstuffs were destroyed, worsening the humanitarian crisis in the affected communities.
Many of the displaced victims, including women and children, have been left without food or shelter, compounding their suffering.
In the wake of the devastation, they have appealed to the government for urgent assistance, particularly food supplies, to avert starvation.
During a visit to the area, the Member of Parliament for Bunkprugu, Abednago Bandim, met with the affected residents, who reiterated their plea for government intervention to alleviate their hardship.
