Accra, February 19, 2025 – The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has removed former Minister of Finance, Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta, from its list of wanted persons after he communicated his intention to voluntarily return to Ghana for investigations into alleged corruption and related offenses.
In a press release signed by Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, the OSP disclosed that Ofori-Atta was declared a fugitive on February 12, 2025, for failing to indicate a reasonable time for his return to the jurisdiction despite being directed to appear before the office in Accra.
However, on February 18, 2025, Ofori-Atta, through his lawyers, informed the OSP of a definite date for his voluntary return, prompting the office to reconsider its position.
This marks a major shift from Mr. Ofori-Atta’s previous intention of remaining outside the jurisdiction indefinitely, the statement read.
Following this development, the OSP has rescheduled his attendance at its offices to align with his stated return date.
While he is no longer considered a fugitive, the OSP cautioned that should he fail to return as promised or miss the rescheduled meeting, he will be reinstated on the wanted list and legal measures will be taken to secure his return.
The OSP remains committed to ensuring accountability, guided by due process and fairness, the statement concluded.
Ofori-Atta, who served as Ghana’s Finance Minister, is under investigation for various suspected corruption and financial misconduct-related cases.
