Accra, Ghana – The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed strong disapproval of the decision by the Speaker of Parliament to suspend three of its Members of Parliament on January 31, 2025.
In a press release signed by its General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party described the action as selective, autocratic, and a deliberate attempt to undermine the Minority Caucus.
The party views this decision as a threat to parliamentary accountability, stating that it weakens the Minority’s ability to hold the government to account.
According to the NPP, the Speaker’s actions violate the principles of natural justice and the constitutional provisions governing parliamentary proceedings.
In solidarity with the affected MPs, the NPP assured its members of unwavering support and endorsed the Minority Caucus’s press conference scheduled for February 3, 2025.
The statement emphasized the party’s commitment to addressing all forms of repression and ensuring fairness in parliamentary governance.
The NPP reiterated its stand with its 88 Members of Parliament and called for adherence to democratic principles in the administration of parliamentary rules.
The party urged Ghanaians to take note of what it described as an erosion of justice and fairness within the legislative arm of government.
The incident has sparked significant debate, with political observers awaiting further developments from the Minority Caucus and other stakeholders in Parliament.
