Election 2024: Ghana faced disaster if NPP had won – Nana Ohene Ntow

Nana Ohene Ntow, Senior Advisor to Alan Kyerematen, founder and leader of the Movement for Change, has declared that Ghana would have faced dire consequences if the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had won the recently concluded elections.

Speaking on TV3 on Saturday, December 14, Ntow highlighted the dire state of the economy under the NPP, citing corruption, the arrogance of power, economic mismanagement, worsening hardships, and the unchecked menace of “galamsey” (illegal mining) as critical factors behind the nation’s struggles.

“With the level of corruption, the arrogance of power, mismanagement, economic difficulties, and the destruction of our natural resources, if the NPP had won this election, Ghana was finished,” Ntow asserted.

Ntow argued that the Movement for Change, led by Alan Kyerematen and other like-minded individuals, sought to deliver a clear message: the urgent need for measurable, impactful change in Ghana’s governance.

He noted that widespread dissatisfaction with the NPP administration underscored the call for new leadership to restore hope and accountability.

His comments come after the December 7 elections, where the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, emerged victorious with 56.55% of the total votes cast against his main contender, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP, who secured 41.61%.

Ntow stressed that the election outcome reflected Ghanaians’ rejection of the status quo. He warned that an NPP victory in the face of mounting challenges would have pushed Ghana towards an irreversible decline.

While he acknowledged that the change ushered in by the elections may not be as transformative as desired, he described it as a pivotal step in challenging and reshaping the nation’s political direction.
