The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana has held an induction ceremony at the Tamale Jubilee Park for newly qualified nurse assistants, nurses, midwives, and post-basic practitioners who completed their programs in November 2022, November 2023, and April 2024.
Delivering her address, the Registrar of the Council, Mrs. Philomina A.N. Woolley, urged the inductees to embrace lifelong learning as a key strategy to remain relevant in the rapidly evolving healthcare industry.
She also introduced the Council’s “Revalidation” initiative, which periodically assesses practitioners’ competence, performance, and professionalism to ensure the delivery of quality and safe healthcare.
The Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Alhaji Alhassan Shani Shaibu, praised the dedication of nurses and midwives, particularly those serving in remote areas under challenging conditions.
While acknowledging the region’s healthcare challenges, such as inadequate infrastructure, he assured the gathering of the government’s ongoing investment in healthcare facilities, logistics, and equipment to enhance service delivery.
Dr. Abubakari Abdulai, Director of Health Services for the Northern Region and Chairman of the ceremony, highlighted the critical role of nurses and midwives in upholding professionalism, empathy, and excellence in patient care.
He stressed that their conduct directly influences the public perception of the profession and urged them to maintain high ethical and professional standards.
As part of the ceremony, the Council recognized outstanding individuals for their academic and professional excellence. Adams Ayishetu was awarded Best Candidate in Critical Care Nursing (CCN), while Alhassan Mustapha received the Best Candidate award in Peri-Operative Nursing (PON).
Both awards were presented by the Peri-Operative and Critical Care Nursing institution in Korle-Bu.
The event, attended by dignitaries, healthcare professionals, and family members, marked a significant milestone for the newly inducted practitioners as they prepare to contribute to Ghana’s healthcare system.
