The Yendi Municipality has taken a significant stride towards promoting inclusivity and socioeconomic development by distributing livelihood support items to persons living with disabilities (PWDs).
The event, attended by key stakeholders and beneficiaries, underscores the municipality’s commitment to empowering vulnerable groups and fostering a more inclusive community.

The distribution was officiated by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Sugri Muniru, who emphasized the importance of the initiative.
In his address, he stated, “This is not merely about handing over items; it is about empowering you to improve your livelihoods, enhance your independence, and contribute meaningfully to our municipality’s development.
These tools are meant to support your trades and daily activities. I urge you to use these items responsibly and for their intended purposes. Let these serve as instruments of transformation that will help you become self-reliant and economically productive. Please avoid selling or misusing these items.
Hon. Muniru also reassured beneficiaries of the assembly’s support, highlighting the government’s ongoing efforts to advocate for persons with disabilities.
He expressed appreciation to the government for increasing the percentage of PWDs eligible for support from 3% to 5% under the district assembly common fund, a move he said demonstrates the government’s commitment to inclusive development.
The government cares about persons living with disabilities, and anything due to them will be given without hesitation, he added.
The event saw the distribution of various items and support packages, including ten deep freezers, two containers, and two industrial sewing machines.
Additionally, 20 caregivers received GH₵1,500 each, while 14 persons received support for ruminants (sheep). Educational support was also provided, with GH₵1,000 each allocated for 3 pre-tertiary students, GH₵2,000 each for two tertiary students, and GH₵1,500 each for two students in special schools.
Medical bills for 25 individuals were settled with GH₵2,000 each, and five visually impaired children received GH₵500 each.

Beneficiaries expressed profound gratitude for the support. Madam Yakubu Bintu, who received a deep freezer, shared her appreciation.
I am grateful to the assembly for this support. The fridge will greatly assist my family and improve our living conditions.
Wumbei Amin, a recipient of an industrial sewing machine, expressed optimism.
This machine will support my work and make it easier for me to earn a living and improve my life.

In his closing remarks, Hon. Muniru urged all stakeholders to continue working together to build a municipality where no one is left behind. He emphasized that unity and collective responsibility are vital for fostering inclusive growth and development.
This initiative highlights Yendi Municipality’s dedication to ensuring that persons with disabilities are supported and integrated into the socio-economic fabric of the community, paving the way for a more equitable future.
