In a strong demonstration of the West Mamprusi Municipality’s commitment to public health and safety, authorities have taken decisive legal action against individuals who violate sanitation laws and assault sanitation personnel.
This enforcement follows a prior warning issued by the Municipal Environmental Health Officer (MEHO), Mr. Anchaba Faustinus, who had pledged to pursue strict legal measures as a deterrent, particularly in light of the recent assault on sanitation officers at Nayiri Fong during sanitation day.
Earlier this year, Mr. Faustinus publicly emphasized that violations of sanitation regulations and assaults on public health officials would be met with the full rigor of the law.
He reiterated that sanitation is a shared responsibility vital to community well-being and underscored the importance of strict enforcement to safeguard public health and maintain order.
The recent incident at Nayiri Fong underscored the seriousness of this stance. Following an assault on sanitation officers, the accused individuals were promptly arraigned in court, where they pleaded guilty to three counts related to assault and sanitation violations. Each was subsequently fined GHS 4,100.
Despite appeals from family members and community leaders to reconsider the case, Mr. Faustinus maintained that adherence to the law is essential for deterring future offenses and ensuring public safety.
He emphasized that the municipality will not tolerate any actions that threaten public health or undermine sanitation initiatives.
We are committed to upholding discipline and protecting our public officials. While we do not target any individual, we must enforce the law to promote a safe and hygienic environment for all, he stated.
This firm stance reflects West Mamprusi’s ongoing dedication to improving sanitation standards and safeguarding personnel involved in public health initiatives.
Authorities are hopeful that these legal measures will serve as a clear warning that violations will be met with appropriate sanctions, fostering a cleaner and safer community for residents.
